“Staff favorite. Jackie Clark Mancuso, has created a colorful and engaging narrative about Hudson living the good life in Paris, France (as Hudson narrates in the story '…a really cool place for dogs').”
Norton Simon Museum
“This fun tale of an English-speaking dog adapting to life in Paris works on several levels. The colorful gouache illustrations of dogs, people and city scenes have loads of personality and emotion, and will engage kids even if they know nothing about dogs or Paris. For fans of France and the French language, there’s even more to enjoy and learn.”
Common Sense Media
“Paris-Chien showcases Mancuso’s playful gouache paintings of Paris’ human and canine denizens, and gives Hudson a bold, amusing narrative voice…. Determined to make friends, Hudson learns a new language, thanks to lessons from—who else?—a French poodle.”
Publishers Weekly
“Paris-Chien is a MUST! Think of it as ‘Me Talk Pretty One Day’ from the point of view of a dog and written and illustrated for children.”
Amy Adams, Children’s Librarian
“Children and adults alike will enjoy the "fish out of water” story. The gouache artwork is particularly charming, and the color palette and flat, stylized technique evoke 20th century French artists such as Matisse.”
Margo Tannenbaum, Children’s Librarian
I’m eager to add to Paris-Chien to my ELL classroom library! I love love love the illustrations! The language is simple enough for a first/second grader to read most of the book (except the French words/places) independently.

“Delightful!”
Travel for Kids: See The World
“Mancuso is very conscious of the influence books have on fertile young minds. Each book tackles situations children commonly face, using the resourceful Hudson as guide. Children love dogs and they are a wonderful mirror of human behavior. What better way to model empathy and kindness than through the adventures of a small, friendly dog.”
France Today
“LOVE this book. The illustrations are especially warm and wonderful.”
Monica Kulling, author, Lumpito

“I loved the eye catching cover and the beautiful pictures. The mixture of French and English words helped me follow the story I could read the book with my dad but also read to my little brother, meaning the book was entertaining for all levels. The main character was very good and you liked him immediately. There is also a nice part at the end where you find out what each of the French words mean.” Isabelle Cullingford, age 7,

“J’ADORE — the kind and adventurous “Paris-Chien” — Hudson! Themes of kindness and acceptance woven throughout make it a wonderful tool for teaching tolerance. The whimsical illustrations, done in gouache, definitely evoke Maira Kalman! And for kids already smitten with Bemelmans, the renderings of Parisian landmarks give off major Madeline vibes. Bonus points for including endpapers that depict things found throughout the book -- they’re lovely and kids love spotting the objects during subsequent readings.” Sarah Diehl, Librarian, Kid Lit Exchange
"An utterly charming and delightfully entertaining picture book for children ages 5-7, Hudson and the Puppy: Lost in Paris will prove to be an immediate and enduringly popular addition to family, preschool, elementary school, and community library collections." The Midwest Book Review
It's Hudson to the rescue in this third adventure featuring the charming and loveable Norwich terrier with the perky ears. In this story, Hudson comes across a stray one day as he leaves the boulangerie with his baguette. The dachshund is sad and lonely and lost. Hudson will do all he can to cheer up the little lost soul and to locate his home. It may be no surprise to learn that after a day of fantastic sights and much bonding, the doxie is here to stay. "Would you like that?" asks Hudson. "Wouaf!" It's a lovely story that young readers will ask for again and again, as they become acquainted with the City of Lights and many French words and idioms. I particularly loved the art, which is child-friendly and expressive. Monica Kulling, author, Mary Anning’s Curiosity
“Beautiful, full-page gouache paintings vividly capture the bustle of Paris…. Cinematic references (Jacques Tati, Charlie Chaplin) will appeal to cinephiles. Kirkus Reviews

Why will grown-ups love it? Hudson and the Puppy: Lost in Paris is a good choice for those seeking a picture book about kindness and responsibility.” The Crooked Little Cottage
